Clearer driving. A safer Ontario.

A practical Ontario G1 study plan

Start with the official handbook, separate rules from signs, then use explained practice to find and repair weak areas before test day.

01

Start with the official handbook

DriveTest says knowledge-test questions are based on the official driver handbook. Use that as the source of truth for rules of the road and traffic signs.

Read in short, focused sessions. After each section, explain the rule in your own words and identify the driving decision it changes. This prevents recognition from being mistaken for understanding.

02

Study signs and rules as different skills

Road signs ask you to recognize a shape, colour, symbol, and safe response quickly. Rules questions ask you to apply priorities, speed, space, and legal restrictions to a situation.

Alternate between sign recognition and rule application. If you miss a question, return to the relevant official source before repeating a similar practice question.

03

Use practice to direct your review

A free diagnostic is useful at the start because it highlights topics to revisit. It is not an official test result and it cannot predict whether you will pass.

Finish with a calm review of your weak areas, your document checklist, and the current DriveTest details for your visit.
