Correct answer: B. Keep the fuel tank at least half full, and use washer fluid rated to work down to −40°C
Keep the fuel tank at least half full, and carry washer fluid rated to −40°C. The guidance says to "keep your fuel tank at least half full" and to "make sure you have an ice-scraper and washer fluid that works down to -40oC." Both are about the same thing: not being caught out. A half-full tank means an unexpected closure or a long crawl behind a plough does not become a night without a running engine, and it keeps you able to run the heater if you are stranded. Summer-grade washer fluid freezes in the reservoir and the lines, and the first you know of it is a windscreen you cannot clear in road spray. The same section asks you to put together a winter survival kit — a charged phone, water and non-perishable food, a flashlight, a blanket and warm clothes, jumper cables, a shovel, traction mats or sand, and candles with a lighter or matches.
